Colorado Crisis Services (CCS) Consolidation

Why is Colorado Crisis Services consolidating?

As a result of Colorado legislation SB25-236, the legislation now combines the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line (988 Colorado) and Colorado Crisis Services line, making 988 Colorado the primary way to connect to immediate free emotional, mental health, or substance use support 24/7. This transition reduces redundancies and delivers a more seamless experience for individuals when they need support the most as well as leverages 988 as an easy to remember number for the people of Colorado.

What does this consolidation mean for the people of Colorado?

As of July 1, 2025, anytime someone calls or texts the Colorado Crisis Services line at 1-844-493-8255 or 38255, they will be connected to the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line for support and services. Provider support will remain the same and help seekers can expect the same consistent services they received through the Colorado Crisis Services line.

Will I still be able to access the Colorado Crisis Services website?

Starting June 5th, 2026, all traffic to the Colorado Crisis Services website will be redirected to 988Colorado.com for access to mental health information, support, and services.

How does this impact schools in Colorado?

K-12: In accordance with House Bill 22-1052 the state of Colorado’s Behavioral Health Administration is required to share awareness and educational materials related to crisis services to all schools, both public and private, in Colorado. The act also requires each student identification card issued to a public school student to contain the phone number, website, and contact information for the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line and Safe2Tell. If the public school doesn’t issue school identification cards, they must display 988 Colorado Mental Health Line materials in the school and send materials to parents and guardians at the beginning of the school year.

Post Secondary: In accordance with this Senate Bill 25-236 public and private postsecondary institutions are required to include 988 Colorado Mental Health Line information on all student identification cards issued after August 1, 2023. If a private or public postsecondary school does not use student identification cards, the school shall distribute information on 988 Colorado Mental Health Line to all students at the beginning of each school semester or trimester.

This requirement helps ensure students have immediate access to up-to-date mental health support when they need it most. For access to print-ready student ID files and other free, print and digital materials, please visit our toolkit at the link here.
